Ghost Project 2014: Call for International Design Competition

MIKSER FESTIVAL 2014 CALLS FOR INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION
„GHOST PROJECT 2014: SOCIAL INNOVATION”

ABOUT GHOST PROJECT
Ghost Project is an international platform for talented individuals in the area of product design. Starting as a small local exhibition of unexecuted projects in 2006, Ghost Project has grown to one of the largest regional reviews of design talents from around the world, enhancing the exchange between designers from different cultural backgrounds and giving unique insight into upcoming design resources.

THEME
The Ghost Project’ slogan: Social Innovation calls for new concepts, initiatives and solutions that use design tools to strengthen community. We encourage projects whose innovative features are driven by social demands rather than the market. Competition embraces creative re-combination of existing assets: human capital, cultural heritage, local craftsmanship and accessible innovative technology aiming at establishing communication, sustainability and sense of common well-being within a contemporary civic society.

COMPETITION SUBJECT
Design concepts, community projects, products, furniture, lighting, interior elements, everyday objects, home accessories, fashion garments, stationary, aid products, recycled materials, etc. that offer innovative yet rational solutions to everyday problems. Criteria appreciated by the Jury: innovative features that enhance the quality of contemporary life; ergonomics; rational production costs; use of materials available locally; environmentally friendly production process; significant social impact.

GENERAL TERMS
The competition is open to all persons aged 35 years and younger, from all over the world.
Applicants may be individuals or groups of creators.
Each applicant may submit more than one entry.

DEADLINES
The competition is open from 30 March – 30 April 2014. The jury will announce the results of competition: The Exhibition, Ghost Project, on 5 May 2014. The Ghost Project exhibition takes place from 3 - 8 June 2014. The Mikser Festival Awards Ceremony will be held at the last day of the Ghost Project exhibition at the Mikser Festival 2014.

REGISTRATION AND PROJECT SUBMISSION
Applicants will be able to register and submit their projects by filling in a Ghost Project form online at http://ghost.mikser.rs/ until 30 April 2014.

AWARD
Award – Participation in Mikser Festival 2014:
Ghost Project Exhibition / Design Marathon - Portfolio Presentation / Design Workshops / Mikser Awards Ceremony

Winners of the Competition will become participants of the Mikser Festival 2014, Southeast Europe's largest regional festival of creativity and innovation taking place in Belgrade’s creative quarter of Savamala, from 3-8 June, 2014. The award includes:

a) Participation in the central talent exhibition Ghost Project 2014: Social Innovation;
b) Public presentation of the winner’s work at the international Design Marathon;
c) Active participation in one of the festival Creative Workshops* run by mentors who are renown international professionals coming from various fields of creative disciplines.
d) International Jury made of respectful professionals, guests of the Mikser Festival, will award the best projects with special recognitions in several product categories which will be announced at the Mikser Awards Ceremony, on the last day of the festival.

IMPORTANT NOTES
By submitting this application, designers commit - if selected to participate in the Ghost Project 2014 exhibition - to produce prototypes and secure their presence at the Mikser Festival in Belgrade at their own expense, to take active participation in the Mikser workshops and presentations, to bring their prototypes to the festival venue on 2 June 2014, and remove them from the festival venue on 9 June 2014.

MIKSER will exhibit the winning entries during Mikser Festival, from 3-8 June 2014. Upon the announcement of the competition results, the Organizer will contact the laureates to provide them with the official invitation letter to accompany their prototypes during the transportation and local information for affordable accommodation.

The decisions of the jury are final. Any claims arising in relation to the authorship of the design or of possible plagiarism thereof, will be the responsibility of the designer. In the event of non-fulfillment of any of the rules herein, the design submitted will be excluded from the Competition.

WOODEN MOSAIC WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS
 
/House B - Terra Panonica, Morkin Serbia / September 16-22nd 2012
With great pleasure we present - WOODEN MOSAIC WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS organized in collaboration between Terra Panonica and the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Forestry, that will take place in House B on Terra Panonica estate, in Mokrin, from September 16-22nd, 2012.
The subject of the workshop is creation of wall mosaics using various wooden species - leftovers from industrial production, and will bring together Master or advanced level students of Arts or Engineering from the regionArtworks will be produced by students in collaboration with local high school pupils, supervised by team of mentors and lecturers: Marko Vukša, sculptor, Tamara Nedeljković Vukša, visual artist, Kosta Bogdanović, sculptor, art historian, art critic and visual arts theoretician, Miljana Nikolić, teaching assistant, University of Belgrade, Faculty of Forestry, Jelena Matić, docent, University of Belgrade, Faculty of Forestry and Božidar Mandić, writer and playwright.

We invite You to apply and become part of this creative team that would be involved in the process of creation and production of mosaics. Workshop represents a chance for all participants to broaden their experience in communication and artistic collaboration, provides opportunity for practical work and development of creative potential, with the wonderful opportunity to stay and work in a building of high architectural value.
Participation, accommodation, food and all the materials for all participants arefree of charge. Application and questions should be directed to e-mail miljanin_email@yahoo.com no later than July 31 2012. 
Application should contain: CV and short portfolio with previous projects, and the workshop will be preceded by short individual prep work.

Mokrin is a settlement in the municipality Kikinda, 13 km from the town Kikinda, in Vojvodina region. House B, provides space for creative work of all kinds, represents one of five buildings on the Terra Panonica estate, opened for various cultural projects, comprising space for presentation of authentic products, accommodation for guests, staying, passing through or revisiting.

House B received the Award in Architecture on 33th Salon of Architecture in Belgrade, and Ranko Radović Award for built architectural object in 2011.


University of Belgrade, Faculty of Forestry, Wood Processing Department, Interior and furniture design, works on education of experts who create new concepts in furniture industry with strong technical background. Students present their prototypes with great success, both on domestic and international fairs, cultural events, and their effort and work have been awarded with numerous awards and recognitions. 
The most important was the beginning of a serial production of 4 student furniture pieces in Simpo company in 
2010.

CALL FOR APPLICATION: GHOST PROJECT 2011

Cultural organization Mikser is pleased to announce that in 2011, the Ghost Project initiative is expanding beyond the Balkans and is calling young industrial designers and architects from all over the world to take part in the competition. Following five years of continuous efforts in discovering and nurturing fresh design talents, the annual exhibition Ghost Project has become the central Talent platform within "Mikser Festival", the biggest Southeast European Festival of creativity and innovation.
The Ghost Project competition is open to all persons 35 years of age and younger from all over the world. Applicants can be individual authors or groups of authors. Each applicant can submit more than one entry.
"NEW SIMPLICITY" is an initiative to multiply networks of progressive activities among young designers, to establish connections between different cultures, among designers and manufacturers, but also man and nature. Above all, the slogan "NEW SIMPLICITY" should encourage designers to take social and economic challenges as inspiration for solutions that open up new possibilities for our tumultuous times.
Applicants will be able to register and submit their projects from 20 February until 4 April 2011. The jury will announce the results within 10 days of the submission deadline.

POZIV ZA MEĐUNARODNI KONKURS: GHOST PROJECT 2011

Kulturna organizacija Mikser, organizator istoimenogfestivala, poziva mlade industrijske dizajnere i arhitekte da učestvuju na internacionalnom konkursu Goust Prodžekt (Ghost Project) za 2011. godinu. Godišnja izložba Goust Prodžekt (Ghost Project) je nakon kontinuiranog petogodišnjeg delovanja u otkrivanju i predstavljanju mladih talenata sa novim idejama, postala centralna talent platforma Mikser festivala, najvećeg festivala inovativnosti i kreativnosti u Jugoistočnoj Evropi.

Na konkurs se mogu prijaviti autori do 35 godina starosti iz celog sveta. Kandidati mogu biti pojedinačni autori ili grupa autora. Svaki autor može da učestvuje sa više radova.

Slogan ovogodišnjeg konkursa je ’’NOVA JEDNOSTAVNOST’’, i predstavlja inicijativu za povezivanje i povećanje aktivnosti među mladim dizajnerima iz celog sveta. Cilj je da se uspostave veze između različitih kultura, između dizajnera i proizvođača, ali i čoveka i prirode. Iznad svega, slogan NOVA JEDNOSTAVNOST bi trebalo da ohrabri mlade dizajnere da trenutne socijalne i ekonomske prilike shvate kao inspiraciju i izazov za nova i inovativna rešenja.

Kandidati mogu da se registruju i prijave svoje projekte popunjavanjem elektronskog formulara Ghost project 2011 na Mikserovom sajtu www.mikser.rs od 20.februara do 04.aprila 2011.godine. Spisak odabranih projekata biće objavljen 10 dana nakon zatvaranja konkursa.

Odabrani projekti će biti predstavljeni u okviru Talent zone Mikser festivala od 24. – 29. maja 2011.godine.

On the course of promoting sustainable creativity, and support of young talents, Department of Wood Processing & Furniture Design, and students of the Faculty of Forestry, organize another exhibition of sustainable designs - prototypes of furniture and interior elements, made of wood and industrial wood off-cuts, as well as various functional-aesthetic cocepts, created in extracurricular activities and workshops; aimed at studying the relationships of form and function as well as innovative use of materials. SIMPO initiates cooperation with the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade|Student designs entering production

/13th Nov 2010, Belgrade - After several meetings with the Wood Processing & Furniture Design Department (University of Belgrade's Center for Interior and Furntiure Design), Simpo Furniture Company offered first production contracts for prototypes of furniture made by students of Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade/






















Simpo - one of the largest and most successful Serbian furniture companies had expressed its interest in works of young designers from Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade. As a result of this invitation four successful prototypes by students of Wood Processing & Furniture Design will be produced by this company. These prototypes (GRID by Dragan Krivokapić, HE and SHE by Aleksandar Blagojević, CHI by Nikola Petković, PLAY ME by Miljana Nikolić) among others, have been presented as a part of New Simpo Furniture Collection for 2011, at Simpo Home Exhibition (Robna Kuća Simpo, Hadži Nikole Živkovića 6, Belgrade) and will be open from 13 -30. November 2010

Upon invitation of ULUPUDS (Association of Artists of Applied Arts and Designers of Serbia) Doc Jelena Matić, the manager of the Center for Furniture and Interior Design at the University of Belgrade, along with her students, is about to present a lecture on results of five year Sustainable Design Initiative, conducted in organization of the Center, at the Faculty of Forestry - Wood Processing & Furniture Design department in Belgrade, which resulted in a number of successful student works - realized furniture prototypes. The lecture is a part of the 2 day conference DANI ZELENE ARHITEKTURE (Days of Green Architecture) organized by ULUPUDS at Robna Kuća Beograd, Knez Mihajlova 5, in Belgrade.

COBRA LAMP UNIVERSITY OF BELGRADE'S BEST SCIENTIFIC- PROFESSIONAL WORK IN 2009

Cobra Lamp prototype /wood sheat with integrated led bulbs/ by Wood Processing & Furniture Design student Uroš Janković (Faculty of Forestry), exhibited and awarded during Mikser 2010 Balkan Creative Industry Festival in Belgrade / jury presided by Konstantin Grcic/, has won another prestigious award - University of Belgrade's Award for Best Scientific - Professional Work in 2009. This is another huge success of Wood Processing & Furniture Design sustainable design initiative, regarding the fact that University of Belgrade's Award is one of the most prestigious scientific acknowledgments in Serbia and that there are 31 faculties of the University (11 in technical sciences group) and all eligible to compete. The showcased work is just a part of lamp collection by this young and talented creative, showcased for the first time at Mikser in May 2010, that might as well be in sale soon, along with a number of furniture products by Wood Processing & Furniture Design students, due to recent high interest by some respected domestic and foreign furniture producers.

GHOST PROJECT 2010: BALKANSKI DUHOVI“/BALKAN GHOSTS“- INDUSTRIAL DESIGN REGIONAL YEARLY REVIEW


THE COMPETITION THEME
After four years of our continuous work to revive the industrial design in Serbia, GHOST PROJECT has become the regional platform for the promotion of design.

BALKAN GHOSTS is an initiative to connect Balkan designers and multiply networks of progressive activities in the region, as well as re-establishing broken connections between different cultures, various creatives, design and business, man and nature.

EXHIBITION
Chosen works will be part of a Mikser festival's central exhibition in the Talent zone. Mikser festival is taking place in Belgrade from May 25-29, 2010, at an attractive industrial location on the bank of Danube.

FIELD OF COMPETITION
Industrial design: furniture, lighting, everyday objects, interior elements etc.

ELIGABILITY
The competition is open to individual designers in South East European countries. Each candidate can submit several designs

CRITERIA
Mikser's jury will select the works based on the following criteria:
Originality
Innovation
Functionality
Technical and technological viability of the design. Ghost Project will showcase only the prototypes. Submitted designs should be executable in technologies available to the designer.
Esthetics
Environmental aspects of the product submitted design should be eco-friendly and sustainable
Management of resources and materials. Careful, rational use of materials and resources necessary for the production of the object will be considered an added value. The jury will particularly value the relationship of the object toward the limitations of the contemporary industrial design. Social and economic context, endangered natural resources, limited availability of the materials and technologies used on the domestic market should be treated as a design challenge and inspiration for solutions that open up new possibilities.

Technical solutions and 3D visualizations of the design should be submitted in an electronic form as a PDF or JPG in web resolution (72 dpi, ~ 640x480 pixels), as well as the detailed description of the design (word document) to e-mail adress: ghostproject@mikser.rs

2. SATURDAY / APRIL 10, 2010/ JURY'S FIRST ROUND RESULTS
Results of the first round will be published on the web site www.mikser.rs
NOTE: Designs chosen in the first round of the selection process must be realized into functional prototypes based on the solutions sent.

3. SUNDAY /MAY 23, 2010/JURY'S SECOND ROUND
A meeting with the selected designers and jury's commentary on the quality of the executed designs and their workmanship

NOTE: Selectors withhold the right to choose only the exhibits of the highest workmanship quality in the second selection round. Participants will be notified on time by e-mail about the exact place and time of the meeting.

TEMA KONKURSA
Nakon četiri godine rada na reanimaciji industrijskog dizajna u Srbiji, GHOST PROJECT prerasta u regionalnu platformu za promociju dizajna.

BALKAN GHOSTS“je inicijativa povezivanja dizajnera nekadašnje kulturne panorama Balkana i ukazivanja na važnost umrežavanja progresivnih inicijativa u regionu, kao i uspostavljanja raskinutih veza između predstavnika različitih kultura, stvaralaca različitih disciplina, dizajna i privrede, čoveka i prirode.

IZLOŽBA
Izabrani radovi će učestvovati na centralnoj izložbi Talent zone regionalnog Festivala Mikser koji će se održati 25.-29.maja, 2010.god u Beogradu, na atraktivnoj industrijskoj lokaciji na obali Dunava.

OBLAST KONKURSA
Industrijski dizajn: nameštaj, rasveta, upotrebni predmeti, elementi enterijera, itd.

PRAVO UČEŠĆA
Konkurs je otvoren za sve zainteresovane koji se bave dizajnom u zemljama Jugoistočne Evrope. Svaki kandidat može učestvovati sa više radova.
                         
KRITERIJUMI ŽIRIRANJA
Stručni žiri organizacije Mikser vršiće selekciju na osnovu sledećih kriterijuma:
Originalni dizajn. Tragamo za autentičnim idejama koje će doprineti da se zemlje regiona pozicioniraju na međunarodnom tržištu.
Promišljenost koncepta i njegova opravdanost
• Stepen razrade idejnog rešenja
• Inovativnost – jedinstveno i napredno idejno rešenje
• Funkcionalnost
• Tehnička i tehnološka izvodljivost eksponata - na izložbi Ghost Project se izlažu isključivo prototipovi, predložena rešenja treba da budu izvodljiva tehničkim postupcima koji su dostupni učesniku
• Estetika
• Ekološki aspekti proizvoda – proizvod treba da ispunjava savremene zahteve očuvanja životne sredine i održivog razvoja
• Racionalnost – racionalna upotreba materijala i resursa potrebnih za proizvodnju predmeta doprineće vrednosti projekta. Žiri će posebno vrednovati odnos projekta prema ograničenjima sa kojima se suočava savremeni industrijski dizajn, pogotovo u našim sredinama. Društveno-ekonomski kontekst, ugroženost prirodnih resursa, limitiranost domaćeg tržišta materijalima i savremenim tehnologijama treba tretirati kao projektantske izazove i inspiracije za rešenja koja otvaraju nove mogućnosti i ulivaju optimizam.

*NAPOMENA: Naknadno pristigli radovi se neće razmatrati. Autori čiji radovi budu izabrani u Prvom stepenu žiriranja su u obavezi da realizuju funkcionalne prototipove na osnovu odabranih idejnih rešenja. Makete neće biti prihvaćene.
