THE PROJECT / O PROJEKTU

The wood industry in the Danube region, as well as other industries which are based on a timber, have the potential to become the motor of a viable and competitive economy, but, unfortunately, suffer from a significant difference, with a low level of internationalization, the lack of co-operation, and so the lack of innovation. Hence arose the project FORESDA to support the transformation of traditional sectors resting on forestry in the Danube region.

THE PROCESS / POSTUPAK

Through its activities, FORESDA will transform the wood industry and other traditional industries to innovative, modern sectors which rely on the forest; develop eco-systems ready for innovation, in order to improve, or reconfigure existing value chains; strive to improve innovation and the development of awareness of the need for innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises, strengthen cooperation in quadruple helix model and implement new ways of cooperation in the Danube region.

208th ANNIVERSARY | University of Belgrade

Learning in stride, look to the centuries!"

September 13th is celebrated as the Day of the University of Belgrade. On that date, 208 years ago, the Great School (Velika Škola) started its operations, under the direction of founder and the first professor Ivan Jugović (Jovan Savić, a former professor of Karlovac Gymnasium) / 13. septembar obeležava se kao dan Univerziteta u Beogradu. Tog datuma, pre 208. godina, počela je sa radom Velika škola, pod upravom osnivača, i prvog profesora, Ivana Jugovića (Jovana Savića, nekadašnjeg profesora Karlovačke gimnazije).
Dositej Obradović
Ivan Jugović (Jovan Savić)

A significant contributor to the establishment of the Great School, giving the initiative and knowledge, was Dositej Obradović, one of the most respected intellectuals of the time, writer, educator, reformer, a member of the Governing Council of Serbia - the first minister of education. His words "O dužnom počitaniju k naukam" inaugurated the Great School, as well announcing a new era of cultural and educational prosperity of Serbia / Značajan doprinos osnivanju Velike škole, svojom inicijativom i znanjem, pružio je Dositej Obradović, jedan od najcenjenijih intelektualaca tog doba, književnik, prosvetitelj, reformator, član Praviteljstvujuščeg sovjeta - prvi ministar prosvete u Srbiji. Njegovom besedom "O dužnom počitaniju k naukam" svečano je otvorena Velika škola, ali i najavljeno novo doba kulturnog i prosvetnog uzdizanja zemlje.

The Great School was initially organized as a combined (classical gymnasium and college) and the first professors, in addition to Dositej and Ivan Jugović were Sima Milutinović-Sarajlija, Miljko Radonjić, Lazar Vojnović and others. After interruptions, due to turbulent times of fight for national independence, with the official decree on Knez Miloš Obrenović, from 1 July 1838, the school renews its work under the name of the Beogradski Licej (Belgrade Lyceum), first in Kragujevac, then in Belgrade (1841), and with the decision by the government on 24th September 1863 it grew into the Great School (establishment of faculties of Law, Philosophy and Engineering - some of the professors were Sima Lozanić, Milan Jovanović-Batut, Mihailo Petrović Alas, Jovan Cvijić, Đura Daničić, Josif Pančić ...). The adoption of the Law on the University, in March 1905, the school was promoted to University (with the right to award doctorates). Selection of teachers was then entrusted to eight full professors, very respected at that time: Jovan Žujović, Sima Lozanić, Jovan Cvijić, Mihailo Petrović Alas, Andra Stevanović, Dragoljub Pavlović, Milić Radovanović and Ljubomir Jovanović./ Škola je u početku bila organizovana kao kombinovana (klasična gimnazija i visoka škola) a prvi profesori, pored Dositeja i Ivana Jugovića, bili su Sima Milutinović Sarajlija, Miljko Radonjić, Lazar Vojnović i drugi.

First professors of the University of Belgrade (1905)
The Amendments to the Law, in 1919 were the beginnings of the establishment of new faculties: Medicine, Theology, and Agriculture (two departments: Agriculture and Forestry). The most credit for the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture had Sima Lozanić, the professor of Agricultural Chemistry, and the Rector of Belgrade University at the time, with the help of Jovan Žujović, geologists and petrologist, who was also the Minister of Education (In 1930, the Faculty of Agriculture changed its name to the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, and in 1949 the Faculty of Forestry was established as independent / The roots of modern science and arts taught at the TMD first began with the establishment of Wood-industrial department (1956), and later continued to develop, following the objective needs, finally with the formation of three sub-departments/concentrations for Technology, Management, and Design (2004)   / Izmenama i dopunama Zakona, 1919. otpočinje aktivnost na osnivanju Medicinskog, Bogoslovskog, i Poljoprivrednog fakulteta sa dva odseka: Poljoprivredni i Šumarski (Najveću zaslugu za osnivanje Poljoprivrednog fakulteta imao je Sima Lozanić, profesor Agrikulturne hemije, tadašnji Rektor Beogradskog Univerziteta, uz pomoć Jovana Žujovića, geologa i petrografa, tada ministra prosvete. Fakultet 1930. menja naziv u Poljoprivredno-šumarski, a 1949.

MAKE A WOODEN FABRIC @ MIKSER
/Galery 12 Hub, 28.05 - 02.06 2013, 5 to 10 PM - FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE /
As a part of the Mikser festival program, TMD Design department (University of Belgrade, Faculty of Forestry) is organizing MAKE A WOODEN FABRIC open creative workshop.

The project researches the relationships between rigid and solid forms of the initial element (sheets of wood veneer) and potential flexibility of the final structure, thus aims to demonstrate the potential of wood as compared to modern technology and principles of design.

During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore the relationships between geometry and function, as well as the process of creation and development of the final product. The result of the workshop is a wooden material consisting of basic elements - veneer, interconnected and arranged in a flexible assembly.

The workshop is open to everyone interested to help in shaping this new amazing "wooden fabric"

See you at Mikser

U okviru Mikser festivala, odsek TMP Šumarskog fakulteta organizuje radionicu Make a wooden fabric. Projekat radionice zasniva se na istraživanju odnosa krute i чврсте forme osnovnog elementa i savitljivosti i fleksibilnosti strukture finalnog sklopa.

Belgrade University's interactive educational installation, developed by students and mentors of Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade, in cooperation with Strajko Co, out of various wood species, upon successful premiere on this year's Mikser Festival in Belgrade, it will be showcased at Belgrade Festival of Science, and in DESIGN BLOCK exhbition at Belgrade International Furniture Fair / Interaktivna obrazovna instalacija Univerziteta u Beogradu, osmišljena od strane studenata i mentora Šumarskog fakulteta u Beogradu, u saradnji sa kompanijom Strajko Co, sledeći uspeh premijere na ovogodišnjem Mikser Festivalu u Beogradu, predstaviće se na predstojećim izložbama na Festivalu nauke u Beogradu, u staroj Zgradi Kluz, i u okviru DESIGN BLOCK izložbe, na Beogradskom sajmu nameštaja.
THE CONCEPT / IDEJA

The concept of Ksiloteka is based on the idea of breaking the traditional frameworks of learning and passive forms of transferring information. It gives the observers an opportunity to form their opinion about the wood as a material of contemporary design practice through their own experience. This project achieves and at the same time broadens the main function of Ksiloteka, which is collecting various kinds of wood with the aim of presenting its biological, mechanical and physical properties. Ksiloteka was realized as collaboration between the company Strajko, which has long-lasting experience in working with the various tree species, and the faculty. This wood library, unique in our region, was created thanks to the activity of company Strajko, which has been, throughout the years, collecting wood samples from around the world, and enthusiasm of young people from the Faculty of Forestry.

THE PROJECT / O PROJEKTU

The structure of the interactive installation consists of 4 L-shaped panel elements. The advantage of these divided elements lies in their ability to be combined in a great number of different ways, which makes a flexible configuration that enables us to form different types of scenery within the same space. The outer or final layer of the installation is a smooth, light, monochrome surface made from Koto wood, while the inner structure hides 148 samples of different tree species. The inner layer is an interactive barbed surface whose chaotic structure is designed to respond to the behavior of a man who passes through the installation and to indicate his presence at the very moment. Thirteen tree species were used to create the vertical forest of sticks. They all have different color, texture, odor, sound, hardiness, elasticity and density.

Strukturu interaktivne instalacije čine 4 panelna elementa L oblika.

DEPARTMENT / USMERENJE

Furniture and Interior Design Orientation is dedicated to educating new experts with a strong technical background who will create develop new concepts in furniture industry. Our students have successfully exhibited their prototypes at trade fairs in the country and abroad, as well as at different cultural events. Their efforts and work have been rewarded with numerous awards and recognitions. Within the Master academic module `Modeling of Wood Products`, multidisciplinary approach, which implies interweaving of academic knowledge and personal experience of related professional fields , is particularly stressed. Therefore a large number of graduated students of other faculties, with fondness for wood and desire to expand their knowledge in this particular field, are attracted to this master module.
